Heading to Australia!

Compared to 2009, 2010 has been a quiet U2 tour for me. After the postponement of the North American tour, and a busy summer schedule, I feel like I'm missing a family reunion as my friends and my favourite band are touring Europe. Now that it's the latter half of 2010, there is no way I will go without seeing U2 live this year! So I just bought my GA tickets for the Sydney and Perth shows, and will be heading down under in December! I hope to see some of you in the queue :)

Comments: Rain begins shortly before U2 goes on, and the show is delayed while crew cover the stage and equipment. The late start and local curfew and/or the heavy rain forces U2 to cut the encore short by a couple songs. By all accounts, the crowd is one of the most enthusiastic of the tour and they get treated to the first live performance of Mercy, a much-loved, unreleased track from the 'Atomic Bomb' sessions. Mothers of the Disappeared makes another rare appearance, as does the new track North Star.

Comments: U2 soundchecks Mercy and Mothers Of The Disappeared in the afternoon, but only one makes an appearance during the show. Mothers is dedicated to Fehmi Tosun, who disappeared in Turkey in 1995 and is mentioned on the Pop album notes. Turkish folk singer Zulfu Livaneli comes on stage to sing it with Bono, then sings one of his own songs, Yigidim Aslanim, with Bono. (A fan also sang his own song at a U2 show on Oct. 10, 1992.) Earlier, U2's crew joined Snow Patrol on stage for 'Chasing Cars' - it's the last time Snow Patrol opens for U2 this year. U2's first show in Turkey attracts about 50,000 fans, making it the biggest rock concert in the country's history.
